Mecca Masjid, also called Makkah Masjid, is one of the popular tourist spots of Hyderabad attracting not just devotees but almost everyone. The construction of Mecca Masjid Hyderabad involved close to 8000 masons who worked round the clock. This construction went on for almost 77 years. Located in the Old City, at a distance of 100 metres from the Charminar which is another popular place for sightseeing in Hyderabad, Mecca Masjid is one of the largest mosques not just in India but also in the world.

The mosque has approximately 75-foot-high hall with dimensions of 220 feet by 180 feet. Interiors of the mosque are also beautifully decorated. It is believed that the main hall alone can accommodate 10,000 worshippers at a time.

Along with this, there are 15 intricately designed arches supporting the roof of the prayer hall. On each side there are five arches, along with a wall which offers Mihrab on the 4th side. The pillars are carved out of single slab granite which increases their exclusivity. The two octagonal columns that majorly constitute the Mosque construction have been created from a single granite stone.

Verses from Quran have been carved on the arches and the doors. Various aspects of Mecca Masjid represent the style of Qutub Shahi dynasty. The cornices along with the floral motifs that have been carved around the complete mosque are one such example. One can see the similarity of design on the arches here at the masjid and those at the Golconda Fort and Charminar.

Mecca Masjid construction was started by Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutub Shah in the year of 1614. If tales have to be believed, the bricks used for the construction of this mosque were brought from Mecca. This mosque is also believed to have some more sacred relics. For instance, according to some, it has the hair of Prophet Muhammed. However, the construction was completed in 1687 by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, after he took over the Golconda Kingdom. It has seen repairs even after that.

The beauty of the fascinating architecture of Mecca Masjid has been accentuated by the Belgian crystal chandeliers which adorn the mosque ceilings. There is also a room in the courtyard where relics and artifact from the ancient times have been kept. Inside the mosque, belonging to the Asif jahi Dynasty, there lie five passageways and tombs as well.

Not only this, this place is also attracts people because of its peaceful atmosphere. Visitors can spend some time in calm and spiritual environment amid the structural beauty from the past. There are many other tourist attractions that are located nearby. Hence, one can also visit Chowmahalla Palace along with a visit to Mecca Masjid. Shopping at the famous Laad Bazaar can also be done on the same day itself. Mekkah Masjid is open on all days of the week. The opening timings are from 4 am to 9.30 pm.

Located at Ibrahimbagh on Gandipet Road and just outside the Golconda Fort, Taramati Baradari is one of the popular monuments of Hyderabad. Taramati Baradari is consisted of a music hall with 12 entrances. It was used an an auditorium. Taramati has been situated on the top of the hill, which was done so as to avoid any disturbance to the sound from the population of the surrounding area. Its hall is spacious. This huge structure is in the shape of semi-arch; it opens into an art gallery.

Taramati Gana Mandir and the Premathi Nritya Mandir are the places where both legendary sisters Taramathi and Premamathi have resided. Both the sisters used to perform at two separate pavilions which are circular dais atop a two-storied structure. Both the baradaris are located at a distance of few kilometres from each other.

These monuments have legend behind them. According to tales, Taramati and Premamati, the two dancers and courtesans of the Abdullah Qutub Shah who was the 7th Sultan of Golconda, used to often perform dances on a rope that was tied between Sultan’s balcony and their place. However, similar to his Grandfather, the founder of Hyderabad, who had courtesan Bhagmati as his favourite; Taramati was the favourite dancer of Abdullah Qutub Shah. This is the reason why he created Taramati Baradari with astonishingly fine acoustics so that her voice would reach him at the Golconda Fort, which is lesser than 3 km. The acoustics of Taramati Baradari is of such high standards that it is often compared to the one in Bala Hisar of Afghanistan.

This place has great acoustics and because of its association with Taramati, who had dedicated her entire life to dance and music, it is now used for performances on classical music and other folk art forms.

Presently, it is a cultural complex which is run by TSTDC where various events, concerts, performances and exhibitions are conducted. The complex is consisted of a large open air theatre, along with a conference room and business centre. The open theatre has a seating capacity of 1,600 people, while the other theatre can seat about 500 audiences.

The restaurant here offers local as well as international cuisine. If interested, you can also stay at the Taramati Baradari hotel here. Haritha Resort, equipped with all kinds of modern amenities offers luxurious stay. Spend the day exploring architectural beauty of one of the popular monument of Hyderabad, dine at the restaurant, unwind at the bar and relax at the swimming pool or at the gym if you are a fitness enthusiast. Apart from these, the place has billiards table and a souvenir shop.

One can visit Taramati Baradari throughout the week. Taramati Baradari visiting hours is from 11 am to 6 pm. The entry to the complex is free.Along with Golconda Fort, other tourist destinations near it are Qutub Shahi Tombs. You can also take a long drive to Osman Sagar Gandipet from here.

The entrance and corridors of the tombs presents an Indo-Saracenic style of architecture, while ornamental parapets and minarets showcase the Islamic architecture. Two-tiered terraces, false ceilings and central pillars, which form an essential part of the structures, have also been intricately decorated.

These tombs were planned and built by Qutub Shahis. These were renovated by Salar Jung III, Mir Yousuf Ali Khan in the 19th century. Constructed on an elevated platform, these tombs are made up of grey granite. These are dome-structured and have quadrangular shape. Each tomb is surrounded by pointed arches and is of 9-15 meters in height from the platform. These pointed arches also add on to the beauty of these structures. Each tomb is also decorated with beautiful ornamentation. However with the passage of time, these ornamentations are not clearly visible now.

These seven Qutub Shahi tombs are of varying sizes. Smaller tombs have single storey while the bigger tombs have two storeys. The tomb of Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah who was the fifth king of the Qutub Shahi dynasty is the largest of all the Qutub Shahi tombs. It is of approximately 42 meters in height and has 28 open arches along with a large dome. There are minarets at its corners.

However, the most important yet the most modest tomb is considered to be of Sultan Quli Qutub-ul-Mulk, who is the founder of Qutub Shahi Dynasty. He not only built his tomb himself but is also said to be the longest supervisor of this magnificent architectural project. It was also his decision to build the tombs on non-ruling royal family members as well such as of nephews, nieces, and sisters.
